Arguable the most visible feature to choose is the finish.

French Polish

A french polish is a traditional finish that is usually only put onto the necks of violins and cellos but can be applied to the entire instrument. It is a hand rubbed finish that is escpecially desireable when you want to show off the natural grain and figure of the wood. French polishing creates a very hard finish that sits close to the wood fibers (as opposed to other varnishes such as polyurethanes that sit layers on top of each other). French polishes provide good acoustic properties for instrument and can be finished anywhere from a high gloss to a flat matt.

Paint

Painted finshes can be applied to any instrument though a painted finish would be more prevalent in studeio cello models. Any customized paint color can be chosen.

Other Varnishes

More traditional varnishes and dies may also be selected. The color and type of finish is best discussed during consultations.
